Capital city of Cuba, la Havana has been inscribed on the World Heritage list by the UNESCO. It is there that salsa was invented in early 20th century. Practiced for decades in the dancing clubs of the city, the “caliente” rhythms of that music have swept across the world over the last years. Throughout the last century La Havana has changed a lot. Under the influence of the USA, the early years brought modernization both in the architecture and in the way of life. In 1959, Fidel Castro and the political regime he brought with him marked yet again an important evolution era for the capital.
