With its 420'000 inhabitants, Santiago de Cuba is the second biggest city in the country. Capital of the Afro-Cuban culture, it is the cradle of the local music as well as the one of literature, and politics, owing it for ages now the status of great rival of La Havana. Considered the most typical city in Cuba, its inhabitants are all coming from different origins, Haitians, Africans, Spanish and French, all influences blending in one unique multicultural mix. Situated at the south east of the city, Santiago offers an interesting contrast between its cultural wealth and its heavenly beaches. The city has also one of the major harbours on the island.
