Mapping

Gold Coast is an urban conglomeration made up of small towns that eventually merged together, located in the southeast of Queensland along the East Pacific coastline. It stretches from Beenleigh and Russell Island to the border between Queensland and New South Wales, covering a distance of approximately fifty kilometers. The climate is humid subtropical, with an average of over 300 sunny days per year and mild seasons. The wet season corresponds to summer, while the dry season occurs in spring.

History & Culture

The conurbation of Gold Coast is the result of a merging process of small coastal towns in the region that began in the 1950s and was officially completed on May 16, 1959. Originally an industrial area, it transformed into a major Australian tourism destination in 1875 with the establishment of South Port and the opening of the coastal road connecting Gold Coast to Brisbane in 1925. Around the same time, Jim Cavill founded the Surfers Paradise Hotel, which gave its name to one of the city's most popular neighborhoods, a hub for surfers from around the world. In addition to the tourism industry, the city's economy is based on maritime trade, technology, agri-food industries, and hosting various sporting events.

Things to Do/See

The main activity along the Gold Coast is undoubtedly surfing, with some of the most popular spots in Australia and the world: The Spit, Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach... perfect for enjoying leisurely moments on the beach in between English lessons. But you can also make the most of your linguistic journey in Gold Coast by admiring the splendid panoramic view from the top of the famous Q1 Tower and exploring the city's numerous amusement parks: Dreamworld, Wet'n'Wild, Paradise Country, and more. Each year, the Gold Coast 600 car race takes place on the streets of Surfers Paradise and Main Beach. Additionally, the city is a must-visit destination for the world surfing championship.

Practical Information about the City
