Our Language Courses in Los Angeles: Total Immersion in English

Total Language Immersion Stay in L.A.

Los Angeles is the glamorous city of the USA. The American dream begins on its magnificent beaches, where all students wishing to undertake an English language study stay will find happiness. As a symbol of the conquest of the Wild West, the city is best known for the Hollywood district and the film industry. However, it would be neglecting the charm of the City of Angels to reduce it to just this district. Composed of a puzzle of autonomous entities, each with its own identity, L.A. will dazzle you with Beverly Hills, where the big American stars live, and surprise you with the Santa Monica neighborhood and the Third Street Promenade, which is filled with street artists, incredible restaurants, and amazing shops. This language study stay has many surprises in store for you, as well as a complete change of scenery!

Having Fun in L.A.

Hollywood Boulevard

Exploring Hollywood Boulevard is the most well-known activity not to be missed in Los Angeles. You can take pictures with the star of your favorite celebrity on the Walk of Fame. From this boulevard, you also have a breathtaking view of the iconic Hollywood sign overlooking the city from Mount Lee. Make sure to visit the famous Grauman's Chinese Theatre. This cinema is renowned worldwide for hosting the annual Oscars ceremony and premiering major American productions.

Griffith Park

It is the largest park in the world, covering 1,700 hectares of land. For those who wish to have a magnificent view of the city, Griffith Park Observatory is the place to visit, and it is also a leading astronomical observatory. Several museums are also located here, including the Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum, which depicts the life and experiences of Western pioneers.

Shopping on Melrose Avenue

This avenue, starting in Beverly Hills, is considered the shopping mecca for all city residents. It can be divided into two parts: La Brea and Fairfax on one side, known for their eccentricity and originality, attracting trendy youth and nonconformists, and the area between Fairfax and San Vincente Boulevard on the other side, where top designers display their collections in selective and chic boutiques.

Santa Monica and Venice

These are the most beautiful beaches in Los Angeles. Contrary to the portrayal in the series, Malibu is highly frequented, and most beaches are private, leaving little space for tourists. Venice, on the other hand, is the most popular beach. It is highly sought after by both the youth and artists. The Santa Monica beach, in turn, has a more family-friendly atmosphere and is ideally located in the lively neighborhood of the same name, featuring Main Street. The choice is yours!

West Hollywood

This is the place to go out at night! Around San Vincente Boulevard and Doheny Drive, you will encounter the most eccentric and party-loving individuals in the city. The nights never end before four in the morning. Perfect for meeting the wildest Angelenos.

Mapping

Los Angeles, or L.A., is located in the southern part of the state of California, and it is the largest city on the west coast of the United States. It is situated on the Pacific coast, where the Los Angeles River flows into the ocean. The city is surrounded by the San Gabriel Mountains to the north and the Santa Monica Mountains, which separate the Los Angeles Basin from the San Fernando Valley. The City of Angels enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with year-round summer-like weather and an average of 320 days of sunshine per year. It is divided into numerous neighborhoods, including ethnic enclaves that showcase its renowned multicultural character.

History & Culture

Originally inhabited by the Tongva and Chumash Native Americans, the bay of Los Angeles was discovered in 1542 by the Portuguese explorer João Rodrigues Cabrilho. Two hundred years later, in 1781, Los Angeles was founded. The city's first major catalyst for growth was the beginning of the California Gold Rush in 1849, as well as its reputation for citrus cultivation, which made it a profitable trade for the small town. The construction of the railroad and the establishment of a connection to the East Coast in 1885 further contributed to its development. Subsequently, the discovery of oil reserves in the region led to another significant population influx and stimulated the city's economy, which is now primarily driven by its renowned film and tourism industries.

Things to Do/See

Between your English classes in Los Angeles, take the time to explore the historic district of Hollywood, where future stars of international cinema are born every day. Discover the exoticism of neighborhoods like China and Thai Town, El Pueblo, Little Ethiopia, and Persia. The diverse landscape of the region offers a multitude of sports activities in Los Angeles. You can enjoy kite-surfing or jet-skiing in the bay, go climbing or hiking in the mountains and hills, and have peaceful walks and picnics in a beautifully rich and fascinating ecosystem.
