Pocket Money

The rate offered by your AILS agency for your child or teenager's language stay is calculated to include all essential expenses. This means that, in principle, your child will not need to plan for additional expenses on-site. However, certain stay packages, particularly in the United States and Malta, may offer optional activities that incur additional costs, such as boat cruises or jet-ski sessions, for an extra fee.

Therefore, young participants generally do not need to carry money with them. However, it is common for parents to provide their children with a small amount of pocket money before their departure to cover minor expenses on-site, such as purchasing drinks, souvenirs, or bus tickets.

The amount of this budget is at the discretion of the parents, and AILS does not have specific recommendations regarding this matter, except that these amounts should remain moderate, although this limit may be subjective.

Furthermore, upon the arrival of young participants at their stay center, any money brought with them is typically collected by a member of the supervising team (according to the center's regulations) to prevent loss or theft. The money will be returned in one or several installments, for example, during outings or other occasions where young participants may have responsible and thoughtful use for it.
