Alpadia German school welcomes children and teenagers who are eager to learn German during the summer holidays on a green campus to the east of Freiburg. Ideally located near this charming historic and university town, this supervised summer camp combines German language learning with various sports and recreational activities on campus and in the surrounding area. The program welcomes young learners of all levels, and accommodation is provided in the on-site residence. German courses are taught in the mornings in small groups of up to 15 students, and the afternoons and evenings are dedicated to a rich program of excursion activities.
EXAMPLE OF A TYPICAL DAY AT ALPADIA
The campus occupied by Alpadia School is located on the edge of a forest in a quiet and pleasant environment in the green neighborhood of Waldsee in Freiburg. The city center can be easily reached in about twenty minutes by public transport, as there is a tram stop just a few minutes' walk from the campus.
The four additional classrooms are located outside the main building, and students will be taken there by taxi service.
Various indoor and outdoor sports facilities are also available to students, including a nearby sports center with a swimming pool, large football/basketball/volleyball fields, all within a short walking distance.
Alpadia School's summer program offers young learners a stimulating and attractive environment to enjoy learning German during their holidays. On the first day of classes, students take a placement test to determine their appropriate level. At the end of their stay, they receive a certificate indicating their achieved level and showing their progress. The program focuses on various areas such as writing, speaking, listening, and reading, and these skills are deepened in a fun and interactive way.
The program includes 20 lessons of 45 minutes per week in groups of up to 15 students, held in the mornings from Monday to Friday. For those who desire a more intensive course, there is an option to add 5 additional group lessons in the late morning on weekdays. It is also possible to add a package of 5 private lessons for a more intensive and personalized focus, also held in the late morning on weekdays.
The program includes full-board accommodation with varied and balanced menus, including salads, hot dishes, and delicious desserts. The majority of meals are served buffet-style in the large cafeteria. On Sundays, which are dedicated to excursions (for a minimum two-week stay), the school provides a picnic for the students. The institute can accommodate specific dietary needs such as pork-free, vegetarian, and gluten-free, provided that they are informed at least 2 weeks before departure.
A wide range of leisure activities is offered in the afternoons, with dedicated animators creating a friendly atmosphere among international students. Some afternoons are focused on exploring the city of Freiburg and visiting amusement parks and animal parks in the region. Other afternoons are dedicated to various sports activities such as football, swimming, table tennis, handball, baseball, orienteering, badminton, and many more.
In addition to the leisure activity program, the school offers two "premium" activities for students who want to intensively practice a sport for three afternoons a week. The first option is mountain biking (MTB). The region of Freiburg has multiple cycling paths, making it an ideal location for this sport. The second option is tennis, suitable for both beginners and experienced players. Lessons will be conducted in groups of 4 students per court/instructor. Equipment is provided on-site or can be brought along.
A free time slot is offered every day between the afternoon activity and dinner. In the evenings, students gather for quiz nights, discos, movie nights, Olympics, karaoke, and other games.
Every Saturday, students are invited to participate in half-day excursions. For example, they can explore Friburg for shopping and visit the old town. For those staying for a minimum of two weeks, a full-day excursion will be organized on Sundays. This optional premium activity will be dedicated to the famous amusement park Europapark.
Compared to other regions in Germany, Freiburg-en-Brisgau enjoys generous sunshine and mild temperatures during the summer, thanks to its location in the southernmost part of the country. In Freiburg, a picturesque and charming town with numerous historical buildings and monuments, life revolves around the lively historic city center, with its pedestrianized streets and small canals fed by the river. In the immediate surroundings, the Black Forest and the Rhine ditch provide ideal locations for relaxing walks to replenish oxygen and energy. Due to its proximity to Switzerland, with the border just 42 km away, and France only 3 km away, Freiburg is an ideal destination for a first language stay or for younger students. Students are accommodated directly on campus in a residence located in the main building of the institute. They stay in bright and comfortable quadruple rooms, each equipped with a bathroom and toilet. Bed linens are provided, and a deposit of €50 is required in cash upon arrival, which will be refunded at the end of the stay if no damage is recorded. Several washing machines are available on campus for a fee of €5 per load. The camp staff can keep the students' pocket money in a safe, which can be withdrawn once a day.
The site offers excellent facilities, including 9 classrooms and several common areas such as a large cafeteria, a student lounge, several snack vending machines, and a foosball area. The main building houses 5 classrooms as well as the residence. Free Wi-Fi access is available throughout the campus.
The school offers a shared transfer service from and to Basel, Zurich, and Frankfurt airports for an additional fee (for arrivals and departures between 10 am and 4 pm). For arrivals and departures outside of this time frame, an individual transfer must be booked.
